Bears Claim Top Spot In USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Association Preseason Poll

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Brown University women's crew team captured the first place spot in the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Association's preseason poll. The Bears are coming off their second place finish at the 2003 NCAA Championship.

Brown has won three national titles in the past five years, capturing titles in 1999, 2000 and 2002. At last year's championship in Indianapolis, the varsity four and varsity II eights rowed their way to first place finishes as Brown fell just two points behind national champion Harvard.

The Bears will embark on their bid for the 2004 title on March 27 in New Jersey. Brown will face both Princeton and Ohio State in the first regatta of the spring season. Brown then returns home to host three straight regattas on the Seekonk River in Providence.
