Camden, NJ - Another well-rounded team effort propelled the Brown women's crew to its second straight EAWRC Sprints team title on Sunday. Racing seven boats in all, the Bears advanced all of them to the grand finals with all seven placing in the top three, including five first place finishes. The team compiled 76 points overall, 18 points ahead of second place finisher Princeton. Radcliffe rounded out the top three while Yale, which won the varsity eight race, finished fourth in the team standings. Brown was also victorious in the alumnae race, easily winning by over 17 seconds.
Brown placed third in the varsity eight grand final behind the Bulldogs and top-seeded Princeton, which edged out the Bears by just one second. The second varsity eight final featured the same crews in the top three with the Tigers getting the win. Yale placed second while Brown, which was the top seed, took third.
The Bears dominated the rest of the races, capturing gold medals in the third varsity four "a" and "b" races, the first and second novice eight races and the novice four race. Brown, the top seed in all five races, timed in three seconds ahead of Yale in the third varsity four "a" races. In the "b" race, the Bears recorded a five second victory over Penn.
In the novice eight grand final, the Bears posted a winning time of 6:38.70. Cornell placed second with a time of 6:42.30 while Columbia was third and Princeton fourth. Brown captured gold once again with a two second victory over Princeton in the second novice eight grand final.
The novice four grand final proved to be no contest as the Bears breezed past the competition, timing in over 14 seconds faster than second place finisher Columbia.
Brown will now wait for the field to be announced for the 2005 NCAA Rowing Championship to be held in Sacramento, CA beginning on May 27. The selections will be made on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. The Bears have won four of the last six national titles, including last season's title.
