Bears Earn Third Straight Five Race Sweep

April 22, 2006

Ithaca, NY - After a 1-2 start, the ninth ranked Brown varsity eight has improved to 7-2 on the year after defeating Cornell and Columbia in Ithaca on Saturday. The Bears won all five races, a common trend over the last few weeks as Brown has gone perfect across the board in its last three races. The varsity eight posted a 4.2 second win over the second place Lions while the Bears took open water victories in the other four races.

The second varsity eight remains perfect this season with a 9-0 mark, taking a 13.7 second win over Columbia. Cornell was not a threat in either varsity eight races, finishing a distant third in both.

The varsity four earned a 5.7 second victory over the Big Red while the novice crews continued their strong rowing with two dominating victories. The first novice eight is now 8-1 overall.

The Bears will get their final warm-up before the EAWRC Sprints next weekend as they host Yale and Northeastern. The Sprints will take place on May 13-14 in Camden, NJ. Brown will be looking for its third straight EAWRC Sprints team title.
