#3 Bears' Varsity Eight Falls To #1 Princeton In Season-Opening Race

Princeton, NJ - The defending national champion Brown women's crew team began its 2005 season on Carnagie River in Princeton, NJ on Saturday, facing the Tigers and Michigan State. Despite falling to top-ranked Princeton in the varsity eight, the Bears took wins in the other three races on the day.

The Tigers won the varsity eight with a time of 6:33.2 while the Bears clocked in at 6:37.0. The Spartans finished last with a time of 6:42.9.

In the second varsity eight race, Brown had a winning time of 7:02.9, just under two seconds ahead of Princeton. Michigan State was well behind, finishing at 7:15.0.

In the novice eight, the Bears freshmen crew rowed to a 6.4 second win over the Tigers. Brown timed in at 7:15.2 compared to Princeton's 7:21.6 finish.

In the fours, Brown's second varsity dominated Princeton, finishing over nine second ahead of the Tigers, 8:11.4-8:20.7. The varsity four battled Michigan State but fell short in the end, finishing just under two seconds behind the Spartans.

Brown will face Radcliffe next Saturday on the Charles River.
