CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 1 Brown University women's crew won all five of its races at No. 17 Radcliffe with Dartmouth College on Saturday morning on the Charles River, coming off a sweep of the NCAA events vs. then-top-ranked Ohio State and No. 11 Princeton on Mar. 26.
The Bears took victories in the first varsity eight, second varsity eight, A varsity four, B/C varsity four, and third varsity eight in defeating the Black & White and the Big Green. Brown beat Radcliffe, the women's crew program at Harvard University, for the eighth straight year in the regular season and improved to 18-8 all-time in the dual series.
In the first varsity eight, the first race of the day, Brown (6:51.1) beat Radcliffe (7:00.7) by 9.6 seconds and topped Dartmouth (7:23.7) by 32.6 seconds.
Moving to the second varsity eight event, the Bears clocked in at 6:54.9, finishing 14.3 seconds ahead of the Black & White (7:09.2) and 31.3 seconds ahead of the Big Green (7:26.2).
Closing out the NCAA events with the A varsity four, Brown placed first in 7:59.4, outdistancing Dartmouth (8:18.7) by 19.3 seconds and Radcliffe (8:22.4) by 23.0 seconds.
In the B/C varsity four race, the Bears' B four took first in 8:04.3, edging second-place Radcliffe (8:20.6). Brown's C four came in third place in 8:37.9, besting fourth-place Dartmouth (8:40.2).
Concluding the day with the third varsity eight, Brown crossed the finish in 7:29.2, defeating Radcliffe's third varsity eight boat (7:49.6), the Black & White's fourth varsity eight (7:54.3), and Dartmouth (8:05.2).
Next, Brown races at the Lake Natoma Invitational in Gold River, Calif., from Saturday, April 16 to Sunday, April 17. The LNI field includes six teams ranked in the latest CRCA Poll – No. 1 Brown, No. 2 California, No. 6 Stanford, No. 13 Wisconsin, No. 16 Notre Dame, and No. 18 Gonzaga.
