Women’s Crew Finishes Second at Princeton Chase in Fall Finale

PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown University women's crew placed second in the women's varsity open eight event – just 0.569 seconds behind first-place Virginia – at the Princeton 3-Mile Chase on Lake Carnegie on Sunday morning to conclude its fall season.

The Bears came in second behind a time of 14:39.825 in a field of 59 entries – not including lightweight boats – narrowly falling to the Cavaliers (14:39.256). Brown topped third-place Yale (14:51.930) by 12.105 seconds, fourth-place Princeton (14:54.281) by 14.456 seconds, and Virginia's fifth-place B boat (15:02.531) by 22.706 seconds.

Brown's B entry in the event took sixth place with a time of 15:03.064, topping A entries from several schools, including Syracuse, Cornell, Columbia, Radcliffe, Penn, Duke, and Dartmouth. The crew edged Yale's seventh-place B boat (15:07.240) by 4.176 seconds

The crew's C entry came in 22nd place, clocking in at 15:37.945 and defeating A entries from Navy, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Georgetown. The boat beat Syracuse's 23rd-place B entry (15:43.090) by 5.145 seconds.

The Bears' D boat finished 39th with a time of 16:12.871, finishing ahead of George Washington's A entry and B boats from Rhode Island, Dartmouth, and Massachusetts. The crew bested Rhode Island's 40th-place B boat (16:17.674) by 4.803 seconds.

Brown will resume competition in the spring of 2016 after gaining first-place finishes in both the collegiate women's eight at the Head of the Housatonic and the women's club eight at the Head of the Charles in the fall of 2015.
