Women’s Crew Wins Women’s Club Eight at Head of Charles

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brown University women's crew won the women's club eight event for the second consecutive year on day one of the 51st Head of the Charles Regatta Saturday on the Charles River.

Starting in bow position one in event 19, the Bears navigated the course in 17:09.583 to gain first place. The Bears held a 6.610-second margin over second-place Radcliffe (17:16.193) and edged 36 other crews in a field of 38 boats.

The crew gained a 12-second margin over third-place Riverside (17:22.207), a 25-second margin over fourth-place Northeastern (17:35.254), and a 27-second margin over fifth-place Fordham (17:36.828).

Last year, Brown won the women's club eight with a course record time of 16:09.902.

The Bears also entered a pair of boats in the women's alumnae eight, event 15. Brown's A entry placed fifth with a time of 18:05.048, finishing 37.740 seconds behind first-place Michigan (17:27.307). Brown's B entry came in 10th in a field of 48 boats behind a time of 18:35.260.

Brown continues competition at the Head of the Charles tomorrow with the Women's Championship Four (2:16 p.m.) and the Women's Championship Eight (2:44 p.m.).
