CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brown University women's crew concluded its racing at the 50th Head of the Charles Regatta with a fifth-place finish in the Women's Championship Four and sixth and 18th-place finishes in the Women's Championship Eight on Sunday on the Charles River.
In the Women's Championship Four event, the Bears came in third among collegiate entries with a time of 16:09.902. A pair of U.S. national team boats took the race's top two spots behind times of 17:29.179 and 18:01.145.
Only third-place Syracuse (18:29.981) and fourth-place Virginia (18:31.529) out-paced Brown among collegiate competitors while the Bears edged sixth-place Yale (18:54.799).
In the program's final race of the day, one of Brown's boats in the Women's Championship Eight came in sixth – third among U.S. collegiate entries – in 16:38.24 while the other finished 18th in 17:29.69.
Brown trailed Cambridge (15:44.79), a boat from U.S. Rowing (16:04.64), Virginia (16:18.60), Oxford (16:28.19), and Michigan (16:36.92) in the race. The Bears once again defeated Yale, which crossed the finish seventh in 16:49.34.
Yesterday at the HOCR, Brown won the Women's Club Eight event and set a course record in a field of 34 entries with a time of 16:09.902, finishing 37.60 seconds ahead of second-place Massachusetts and eclipsing the previous record of 16:41, set last year.
Next, Brown concludes its fall season at the Princeton Chase on Oct. 26.
