PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's crew will continue its fall season at the 50th Head of the Charles Regatta this weekend with one boat competing on Saturday and three entries taking to the water on Sunday on the Charles River in Cambridge, Mass.
The Bears will enter a boat in the Women's Club Eight on Saturday with Brown beginning the race in bow position No. 2 out of 34 total entries.
The next day, the Bears will place a crew into the Women's Championship Four, starting the race in bow position No. 3. Brown will begin the race behind two U.S. national team boats in a field of 17. Later in the afternoon, the program will put two entries into the Women's Championship Eight race in bows Nos. 13 and 34 with 34 boats set to enter the event.
Brown comes into the weekend off a strong showing in its fall season opener at the Head of the Housatonic on Oct. 11 where the team won the Collegiate Women Eight event.
One of the world's preeminent rowing competitions, the 2014 Head of the Charles Regatta will commemorate its 50th race with a variety of offerings including a gala dinner, documentary and history exhibit. The regatta annually features U.S. and International rowers of all ages and abilities.
This year's two-day event is expected to attract 11,000 competitors and over 400,000 spectators.
