PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's crew contingent continues to grow stronger for the upcoming World Rowing U23 World Championships as freshman Monika Sobieszek (Stoneham, Mass.) will represent Poland on the international stage on July 23-27 in Varese, Italy. Sobieszek is the fourth Bear to earn a spot on a national roster, joining junior Coco Schoeller (West Palm Beach, Fla.), sophomore Emma Betuel (East Hampton, N.Y.) and freshman Alia Shafi (Lafayette, Calif.), who will all row for the United States.
Sobieszek will occupy the stroke seat for Poland in the women's eight. The freshman appeared in the fifth seat for Brown's varsity eight during every race of the regular season, powering the Bears to the nation's top ranking for the first time since 2007. Sobieszek remained in the varsity eight fifth seat for the Ivy League Women's Rowing Championships, helping Brown earn silver in V8 and take home the Team Trophy for most overall points. She then helped push Brown to a third place finish as a team at the NCAA Women's Rowing Championships from the fourth seat of the second varsity eight boat.
