No. 1 Women’s Crew Selected for 2014 NCAA Rowing Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 1 Brown women's crew team received an at-large bid to compete at the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championships, it was announced by the NCAA on Tuesday. One of three schools to compete in all 18 NCAA national championships, the Bears will looks to earn their eighth title and maintain their status as the most decorated women's crew program in the sport's history.

The championships will be held May 30 – June 1 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis with Notre Dame and the Indiana Sports Corporation serving as co-hosts.

Brown's varsity eight is seeded fourth and will race in the fourth heat, while the Bears' second varsity eight and varsity four were both awarded the top seed and will compete in their first respective heats.  

The team championship is composed of 22 teams. Eleven conferences were awarded automatic qualification and the remaining 11 slots were filled with at-large selections to complete the championship field. Teams qualifying for the championship as an automatic qualifier or as an at-large are required to field two boats of eight rowers and one boat of four rowers. For the I Eights, II Eights and Fours, all 22 boats will be seeded into four heats.

Brown comes off a performance at last Sunday's Ivy League Women's Rowing Championships that saw the Bears earn the Team Trophy for most overall points and take second place in the varsity eight race. Brown went 10-1 overall during the regular season and went unbeaten at 4-0 in Ivy League competition.
