Tessa Gobbo Wins Gold in Women's Four at World Championships

CHUNGJU, SOUTH KOREA - Former Brown women's crew team member Tessa Gobbo '13 helped lead the United States to a gold medal in the women's four at the 2013 World Rowing Championships on Friday. Team USA finished in a time of 6:43.15, outpacing the silver medal Canadian squad by over four seconds.

Gobbo and company edged the Canadian and Australian teams, which finished second and third, respectively. The first 500 meters saw USA fall into third place, but the squad sparked to life in the second half and overcame a one-length deficit to take first place.

A member of the 2011 NCAA National Championship team, Gobbo was an Academic All-Ivy and First Team CRCA All-Region selection. She was a co-recipient the University's 2013 Marjorie Brown Smith Award, which is presented anually to Brown's female varsity athlete-of-the-year. Gobbo helped the Bears take home the Charles G. Willing Jr. Trophy for the best team performance in the 2013 Eastern Sprints Regatta.
