Six Brown Rowers to Compete at 2013 World Championships
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Four past members of the Brown University crew teams have qualified for a spot on the United States squad that will compete at the 2013 World Rowing Championships from Aug. 25 to Sept. 1 in Chungju, South Korea. In addition, former Brown men's rowers Nikola Stojic and Steve Van Knotsenburg will compete at the championships, representing Serbia and Canada, respectively.
On the men's side, former Brown rowers Matt Wheeler '09, Ben Dann '12 and Peter Gibson '13 all landed a spot on 87-person U.S. roster. Wheeler, out of the Penn A.C. Rowing Club, will compete in the men's pair with coxswain. Dann will compete in the men's double skulls and Gibson will row in the men's lightweight eight.
Tessa Gobbo '13, an Academic All-Ivy and First Team CRCA All-Region selection, will represent the United States in the women's four. Stojic and Van Knotsenburg will both row in the men's pair event for their respective countries.
Heats will begin Sunday at 10 a.m. and run through Wednesday, Aug. 28, before the semifinals on Thursday and Friday to set up the finals on the remaining days of competition. For more information about the World Championships, click here.
