#9 Brown Sinks Rhode Island on Seekonk River
PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND – The ninth-ranked Brown women's crew team turned in a commanding performance on the Seekonk River this morning, defeating the University of Rhode Island in all four races conducted in chilly April weather.
Competition in Brown's first home regatta of the season opened with the third varsity eight, and the Bears easily handled the Rams, crossing the finish line 33 seconds ahead of the visiting boat. Brown clocked in at 7:03, while URI turned in a time of 7:36.
The varsity fours took to the water next, with URI racing three boats and Brown entering two crews. The Bears took the top spot with a time of 7:07.89, while the Rams claimed the next two, covering the course in 7:31.79 and 7:43.21, respectively. Brown's second varsity four finished in 7:50.08, and URI's third boat rounded out the field with an 8:36.18 clocking.
Brown's second varsity eight proved dominant as well, turning in a time of 6:17.39, well ahead of URI's crew, which crossed at 6:43.85.
The final race, the varsity eight, was the closest of the morning, but the Bears came out on top for the fourth time of the day, winning the contest with a time of 6:09.61. The Rams also turned in a strong race, finishing in 6:20.22.
Brown returns to action next weekend when the team welcomes Boston University to Providence for the second of three consecutive home regattas.
