PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced the 2012 Division I All-Region award-winners and the CRCA Scholar-Athletes. These awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains from each of the five regions, organized into first and second-team selections. Brown women's crew was honored with three all-region selections and seven scholar-athletes.
Senior captain Allison Courtin (Buffalo, N.Y.) and junior Tessa Gobbo (Chesterfield, N.H.) were named to the New England Region First Team while junior Ali Mittelberger (Oakland, Calif.) garnered Second Team accolades.
These athletes will be eligible for All-America awards selection following the NCAA Rowing Championships.
Brown also boasted seven CRCA Scholar Athletes: seniors Megan Gorman (Brooklyn, N.Y.), a human biology concentrator, Sardis Harward (Arlington, Mass.), Athropolgy/Pre-Med, Elizabeth Hutsell (Arlington, Va.), Cognitive Science, Beatrice Sims (North Grafton, Mass.), Computer science, junior Laura Stumhofer (Corpus Christi, Texas), Political Science and sophomores Samantha Miller (Bethesda, Md.), American History, and Camilla Polakoff (Berkeley, Calif.).
The scholar-athletes for the 2012 season are student-athletes who has met all eligibility rules as defined by her institution was in her second third or fourth year of eligibility and rowed in her institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event. The student-athlete has had a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career (through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year).
