Providence, R.I. – The Brown women's crew has been selected to compete at the 2010 Division I Women's Rowing Championships, hosted by Washington State, the 14th consecutive season in which the Bears have earned a bid. Brown has finished in the top five each year since 1997, the inaugural championships, and has won an unparalleled six national titles. This year's regatta will take place at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, California from May 28-30.
The Bears are coming off a strong performance at the EAWRC Sprints last weekend, held in Camden, New Jersey, where they took four overall victories and saw all six boats earn a spot on the podium. In the three NCAA events, Brown took bronze in the Varsity 8, silver in the second 8, and gold in the Varsity 4.
In 2009, Brown turned in a strong finish at the NCAA Championships in Camden, finishing fifth in the country in an exceptionally strong field. The Bears qualified both eights for the grand finals, where the varsity finished fifth and the second eight placed fourth, while the varsity four took eighth overall to push Brown up to fifth in the team standings. Brown also has 12 top-three finishes in 13 years, a record unrivaled by any other program in the nation.
Also competing at the 2010 NCAA Championships will be California, Clemson, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Princeton, Southern California, Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA, Virginia, Washington, Washington State, Wisconsin, and Yale.
