Ithaca, NY – The Brown women's crew continued an impressive 2010 spring season on Saturday morning, beating Columbia and Cornell by open water to capture the Dunn Bowl and run its Ivy League record to 3-1. Bruno's top boat rowed a 6:29.5 on the Cayuga Inlet, leading the charge as the Bears swept all five events that they entered.
In the varsity eight race, Brown came down the course in 6:29.5, edging Columbia and Cornell, which finished at 6:36.8 and 6:37.6 respectively in a close race for the second position. The Bears were nearly as fast in the second varsity, crossing the line in 6:33.2, just over three seconds behind the top crew. Columbia was second again, rowing 6:41.6, with Cornell just behind in 6:44.0.
In the varsity four, the Big Red threatened early against Brown, before the Bears were able to pull away for the win in 7:27.6. Cornell was second in 7:32.2, with Columbia rounding out the field in 7:56.9. Brown had its closest race of the day in the third varsity eight, as the Big Red crossed the line less than three seconds behind Bruno, holding the margin fairly close throughout. The Bears led in 6:54.0, with Cornell at 6:56.7 and the Lions at 7:25.4.
In the fourth varsity eight, Brown took an open water win in a two boat race with Cornell, rowing a 6:59.3 to edge the Big Red's 7:06.2.
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, May 1, when they wrap up the regular season at home against Yale.
