Boston, MA – The Brown women's crew turned in perhaps its best performance of the season on Saturday afternoon, sweeping both Boston University and Northeastern in all five events, and rowing impressive times across the board. Bruno's varsity eight led the way with the fastest time of the day, coming down the course in 6:27.4 to take an open water victory over the other two crews.
In the varsity eight, Boston University caught an early over the head crab, allowing Brown to pull away early and open up a significant margin, which the Bears were able to hold on to the rest of the way, knocking off Boston by a 17-second margin. The Terriers were able to recover enough to come back and catch Northeastern though, rowing 6:44 to beat the Huskies' 6:46.
Brown was similarly impressive in the second and third varsity eights, winning by 19 and 24 seconds respectively. In the second eight, the Bears crossed the line in 6:37.5, the second fastest time of the day overall, edging Boston in 6:56.6 and Northeastern in 6:58.7. Things unfolded in much the same way in the third eight, as Brown's 6:51.6 was enough to pick up the win.
In the varsity four, Bruno pulled a 7:16.9, rowing away from the other crews, as Boston University came in at 7:29.1 and Northeastern finished with a 7:43.0. Brown's third varsity four was able to overachieve in its race, knocking off the “B” squad for the Bears, and also beating the opposing crews, rowing a 7:20.0 to take the second fours race.
The Bears will be back in action on April 24, when they travel to Ithaca to take on Cornell and Columbia.
