  • Women's Crew Leads Nation With 11 CRCA Scholar Athletes; Five Bears Named to All-Region Team

    Providence, RI - The CRCA recently announced its 2010 Scholar Athlete list, with Brown leading all Division I schools with 11 student-athletes named. To be eligible for inclusion, student-athletes must be in at least their second year of eligibility, have rowed a minimum of 75% of races in an NCAA eligible boat, and have maintained at least a 3.5 GPA through the current year. Additionally, the Bears had five rowers named to the CRCA All-Region Team, including Hannah Malvin and Lauren Libfraind, who were First Team selections.

    Providence, R.I. – The Brown women’s crew has been selected to compete at the 2010 Division I Women’s Rowing Championships, hosted by Washington State, the 14th consecutive season in which the Bears have earned a bid. Brown has finished in the top five each year since 1997, the inaugural championships, and has won an unparalleled six national titles. This year’s regatta will take place at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, California from May 28-30.

Yale’s lone win came in the varsity eight, where the Bulldogs took the closest race of the day, winning in 6:06.0.

Bruno’s top boat rowed a 6:29.5 on the Cayuga Inlet, leading the charge as the Bears swept all five events that they entered.

    Boston, MA – The Brown women’s crew turned in perhaps its best performance of the season on Saturday afternoon, sweeping both Boston University and Northeastern in all five events, and rowing impressive times across the board. Bruno’s varsity eight led the way with the fastest time of the day, coming down the course in 6:27.4 to take an open water victory over the other two crews.

The Bears also took the top two spots in the second varsity fours race, and added a victory in the third varsity eight.

    Princeton, NJ – The Brown women’s crew opened the Ivy League season with an illustration of their team depth on Saturday morning, winning three of five races against Princeton and Ohio State, though the Tigers did win the varsity eight by a three-second margin. Bruno came away with wins in the second, third, and fourth varsity eights though, as well as seconds in both the varsity eight and four.

    Providence, R.I. – The Brown women’s crew began their spring dual race season in impressive fashion on Saturday morning, sweeping the URI women on the Seekonk River. The varsity 8 turned in the fastest race of the day, rowing a 6:50.59 to knock off the Rams by 16 seconds, but all six Brown boats appeared to already be in midseason form.

Bruno's top eight finished fourth with an impressive 15:29, while the "B" boat came across just seven seconds later to finish seventh, beating a number of "A" boats in the process.
