COLLEGE STATION, TX (Dec. 30, 2000) -- The Texas A&M Aggies took a 21-point lead at halftime and never looked back, defeating the Brown Bears 84-48 in the championship game of the Verizon Holiday Classic on December 30.
The Bears shot only 33.3% from the field in the first half, as sophomore guard Barbara Maloni, who was named to the All-Tournament team, scored 13 of her game-high 22 points to pace Brown. However, the Aggies countered with guards Brandy Jones and Jaynetta Saunders, who scored 19 and 16 points respectively for the Aggies.
Brown opened the second half with a 6-0 run to pull within 15, but the Aggies quickly countered with their fast break offense and strong play under the boards. Brown was limited to - shooting and was outscored 38-23 in the second half as Texas A&M improved its school-best start to 10-1.
The Bears, who saw a two-game winning streak snapped, fall to 4-6 on the season, and will take on Texas Christian in Fort Worth, Texas on New Year's Day.
