Women's Basketball Returns To Action At UAB Tournament

The women's basketball team will travel to Alabama to take part in the University of Alabama-Birmingham's Lady Blazer Invitational from Dec. 29-30. It will be the Bears first action in three weeks as the team has not played since Dec. 7. Brown will take on host UAB on Monday, Dec. 29 at 6 p.m. The Bears will face either UT-Martin or San Diego State the following day at 3 p.m. in either the championship or consolation game. The Lady Blazers will play in the 5 p.m. game on Tuesday regardless of a win or loss to Brown in the opening round.
It will be the first-ever meeting between Brown and Alabama-Birmingham. The Bears are 2-5 on the season. The team went 1-1 at the Brown Classic on Dec. 6-7, defeating New Hampshire, 77-62, in the opening round. Brown faced #23 Boston College in the Championship game and fell 73-45, despite playing the red-hot Eagles even through the first half. Prior to the Classic, Brown dropped four straight games. Senior Nyema Mitchell leads the Bears with 12.4 points per game and is tied for first in rebounding with junior Holly Robertson, with 6.1 per game. Also averaging double digits is senior Tanara Golston with 11.4 points per game. She leads the Ivy League with 5.0 assists per game.
The Lady Blazers have won two straight games, improving to 4-6. UAB came back from a 16-point deficit against Belmont on Dec. 20, to take a 74-68 win. The team defeated Florida Atlantic, 95-73, the previous day. Senior Natasha Thomas leads the Lady Blazers with 15.0 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game
