Providence, RI - Jessica Viertlboeck has been named an assistant women's basketball coach at Brown University. She joins Head Coach Jean Marie Burr and first assistant Pamela Bass as the Bears gear up for the 2003-04 season after a turnaround season last year, where the team finished second in the Ivy League standings. Viertlboeck comes to Brown from Alma College in Alma, MI where she served as an assistant women's basketball coach last season. She helped lead the Scots to 17-9 record.
While at Alma, Viertlboeck also worked as an assistant in the sports information department and interned with the senior women's administrator. Prior to that, she worked as a women's basketball graduate assistant coach and physical education and sport teaching graduate assistant at Central Michigan University.
Viertlboeck graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2001 with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education with a minor in Sociology. She was a four-year letterwinner on the women's basketball team, earning First-Team All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors as a junior and senior.
She was selected as MVP of the NCAC conference tournament and was named an Honorable Mention Kodak All-American, as Ohio Wesleyan finished third in the NCAA Division III National Tournament her senior year in 2001. That year she led the league in scoring with 18.0 points per game. During her tenure with the Battling Bishops, the team captured three league titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament twice.
