Brown junior guard Sarah Hayes (Beaufort, SC) was named a 2005 ESPN The Magazine District I Second Team Academic All-American on Thursday. Hayes, who leads the Bears with 14.6 points per game this season, is a double concentrator in Psychology and History.
The two-time All-Ivy selection's 3.0 steals per contest rank 22nd in the nation. Over the last four games Hayes is averaging 17.5 points and 8.8 rebounds. She has been named the Ivy League's Player of the Week twice this season.
Last Friday in a 15-point win over Harvard, the Bears' 5-8 point guard racked up 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Earlier in the Ivy season, she put together back-to-back career-high performances of 22 points and five steals.
Hayes currently ranks ninth on Brown's all-time steals list with 178. With one full season still left to be played, she has 853 career points to her credit.
