Brown Women Drop Fourth Straight, Fall to Harvard 65-48
CAMBRIDGE, MA -- The Brown women's basketball team dropped its fourth straight decision on Friday night, falling 65-48 to the Harvard Crimson in action from Lavietes Pavilion in Cambridge. The loss dropped the Bears to 10-12 overall and 5-4 in league play.
Brown led by five early on, but the Crimson played a consistent first half to take a 9-point halftime lead, never trailing after the game's first two minutes. Harvard shot 50% from the field in the first half, going up by as many as 13 before Brown closed the gap to four on a Miranda Craigwell layup with 3:30 left in the first half. Harvard hit four free throws in the closing minute of the half to push the lead back up to nine.
After the Crimson ran up a double-digit lead that reached as many as 17 points, Brown clawed back within nine on a spirited run paced by a number of different scorers off the bench, including a season-high 6 out of sophomore Brianna Brown and 7 from freshman Miranda Craigwell. Brown rallied to pull within nine, as the Brown defense forced 20 Crimson turnovers.
The Bears, however, faltered late in the game, as the Crimson went on a 10-2 run in the final four minutes of the game, stunting Brown's comeback bid and going back up by 17. The turnover bug continued to bite the Bears, as Brown turned the ball over 22 times in the game, the third straight game Brown has finished with more than 20 turnovers.
For the Crimson, freshman forward Hana Peljto played a solid game in the low post, leading all scorers with 19 points, and freshman Tricia Tubridy added a double-double, finishing with 12 points and 11 boards. Brown had 10 different players score points, led by junior Rada Pavichevich's 12 points.
Brown faces the Dartmouth Big Green tomorrow night in Hanover, New Hampshire. Game time is set for 7:00.
