Brown University freshman Sarah Hayes (Beaufort, SC) has been named Ivy League Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season. The League honors come after Hayes aided the Bears in their 73-63 win over Cornell and 71-66 win over Columbia, making Brown undefeated in the Ivy League (4-0) and 10-7 overall. The ten wins that Brown has accumulated doubles the total wins from last season.
Hayes was clutch from the line helping the Bears earn a 71-66 win over Columbia. With the Bears trailing by one and 1:53 to go, Hayes stepped to the line and made both attempts to give the Bears a 63-62 lead. Then with 10 seconds remaining, Hayes made two more to put the game out of reach at 70-66. She finished with 16 points and eight rebounds. In the 73-63 win over Cornell, Hayes stuffed the stat sheet with six points, nine rebounds, four steals and three assists.
This is the sixth Ivy League honor for the Bears in five weeks, of which Hayes has been honored for half. Also recording Ivy League honors for Rookie of the Week was Jackie Vocell (Atkinson, NH), and for Player of the Week Tanara Golston (Skokie, IL) and Nyema Mitchell (Birmingham, AL).
