Bears snap two-game losing streak with decisive 60-44 win over Sacred Heart
FAIRFIELD, CT -- Freshman forward Nyema Mitchell came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points as the Brown women's basketball team defeated the Sacred Heart Pioneers 60-44 on Monday night to snap a two-game losing streak.
Brown jumped out to a 30-19 halftime lead, as junior center Rachael MacDonald scored 12 of her 16 points and Mitchell added 9 of her game-high 19. Brown's defense limited the Pioneers to six total field goals, including two stretches of more than six minutes in which Sacred Heart did not score a basket.
In the second half, Mitchell continued her dominance of the low-post, as she scored 10 more points to overwhelm the Pioneers and help Brown to its fifth win of the season. Once again, the Brown defense played strong, as Sacred Heart managed only five field goals in the second frame.
Guard Ragan Kenner added 7 points off the bench, and junior guard Rada Pavichevich also picked up seven points for Brown.
The Bears will open up Ivy League play this weekend, when Dartmouth and Harvard visit the Pizzitola Sports Center on Friday and Saturday nights, respectively. Tip-off for both games is 7:00.
