Women's Basketball Drops 74-59 Decision to Sacred Heart

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown women's basketball team dropped a 74-59 decision to the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University on Monday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

Junior guard Ashley Durmer led the way for Sacred Heart by scoring a game-high 18 points on six of 12 shooting. Also scoring in double-figures for the Pioneers was junior center Brooke Rutnik who netted 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help Sacred Heart improve to a record of 4-2 on the season.

For Brown (3-5), sophomore forward Nyema Mitchell (Birmingham, AL) posted a double-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots. Mitchell leads the Ivy League in blocked shots with 24. Senior forward Rada Pavichevich (Norwood Park, IL) also scored 14 points and added eight rebounds and five steals for the Bears. Sophomore guard Stephanie Bruce (Summit, NJ) had eight points and four rebounds to round out the scoring for Brown.

Brown trailed 43-28 at halftime and pulled within 10 points with 1:17 remaining in the game but they could not overcome the deficit.

The Bears return to action in 11 days when they will host American International College at the Pizzitola Sports Center in a 6:00 p.m. game.
