CHICAGO, IL -- Senior Rada Pavichevich (Norwood Park, IL) and sophomore Tara Williams (Portland, OR) each scored 15 points apiece to give the Brown women's basketball team a 73-57 victory over Air Force in the consolation game of the University of Illinois-Chicago Tournament at the UIC Pavilion on Sunday.
Pavichevich added six rebounds and also dished out five assists to lead the Bears (2-2) to their second victory of the season and a third place finish in the tournament.
Sophomore Nyema Mitchell (Birmingham, AL) controlled the iniside game for Brown with 14 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Williams led the outside attack, shooting a perfect five of five from the free throw line and hitting two of four three-point field goals on the afternoon. Sophomore Stephanie Bruce (Summit, NJ) also chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds
In the first half, the Bears held the Falcons to just two field goals as they raced out on a 13-0 run to take a 45-16 halftime advantage.
Mitchell, who was selected to the All-Tournament Team, took charge early on in the game, scoring 10 first half points and pulling down six rebounds. Pavichevich also had nine points and three assists in the first half to help pace the Bears.
The Bears improved their overall record to 2-2 with the win and will meet Providence in their home opener on Thursday in a 7:00 p.m. game at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
