Burlington, VT - The Brown women's basketball team (0-3) dropped its first game of the TD Banknorth Classic in a 69-38 loss to the University of Vermont (2-1) on Saturday afternoon. The Bears will play NC State in the consolation game tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. Sophomore Shae Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA) led the Bears' in scoring with 10 points and four rebounds.

The Bears came out in the first half with intensity, taking a 9-6 lead in the first four minutes of play. Fitzpatrick hit a jump shot to score the first two points of the game, and senior point guard Annesley O'Neal (Franklin, GA) added a jumper as well. Sophomore Courtney Lee (Tavares, FL) then went coast-to-coast for a lay up, and O'Neal followed it up by hitting a three to give the Bears the lead.

The Catamounts didn't back down, and quickly gained the lead after Amy Rosenkratz hit a jumper, and Courtnay Pilypaitis went on to score eight consecutive points. After a few quick fouls called on Brown, Vermont was in the bonus, going 13-16 from the charity stripe in the first half. The Bears headed into the locker room down 37-23.

A 14-point lead for Vermont quickly turned to a 30-point cushion in the second half, as Rosenkratz went on a scoring spree picking up eight consecutive points. While the Bears were held scoreless for eight minutes, Vermont went on a 20-0 run. Fitzpatrick broke the silence with a jumper, putting the score at 59-29 with 9:35 remaining in the game. But it was too late for the Bears to recover, ending the game 69-38.

Freshman Sadiea Williams (Lunenburg, MA) added nine points and pulled down four rebounds for the game, as O'Neal finished with seven points, four assists, and a game-high eight rebounds.

Leading Vermont in scoring was Pilypaitis with 16 points and seven rebounds, followed y amy Rosenkrantz with 13 and May Kotsopoulos with 11.

The Bears are back in action tomorrow, at 12:30 p.m., and will take on NC State.
