Hamden, CT - The Brown women's basketball team (0-2) fell 85-41 to Quinnipiac (1-0) at the TD Banknorth Sports Center on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Shae Fitzpartick (Lynnfield, MA) led Brown with 15 points and eight rebounds.
The Bears came out cold in the first half, shooting just 26 percent from the field and falling behind 38-21 at the half. Quinnipiac jumped on Brown early, taking a 14-2 lead after the first five minutes of play. The Bobcats' were helped by Erin Kerner's 12 points, and Monique Lee posted 10 points while the team shot 41 percent from the field.
After a few scoreless droughts for Brown, the Bears got back on track as Fitzpatrick nailed a three, and sophomore Christina Johnson (Oakland, CA) fed a great pass to rookie Sadiea Williams (Lunenburg, MA) down low to put the score at 25-13 with six minutes remaining in the half. Fitzpatrick then hit a deep three to cut the deficit to 38-21 heading into the locker room.
The second half was similar to the first, with Quinnipiac increasing its lead to 52-26 after the first five minutes. Fitzpatrick hit two foul shots for the Bears' and senior Annesley O'Neal (Franklin, GA) drained a three. The Bobcats had a spread the points around in the second half, and increased its lead to 85-41 to end the game.
Fitzpatrick carried the Bears with 15 points and eight rebounds, as O'Neal chipped in with eight points and four rebounds. Leading the Bobcats' offense was Kerner with 21 points and Mandy Pennewell with 20. Up next, Brown will take on the University of Vermont on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 12:30 p.m.
