Bears End Season with a 64-43 Loss to Dartmouth

New Haven, CT - The Brown women's basketball team (3-25, 1-13 Ivy) ended the 2008-09 season with a 64-43 loss to first-place Dartmouth College (17-10, 12-1 Ivy). Dartmouth's Brittney Smith led the Big Green in scoring with 20 points and 10 rebounds, as Christina Johnson (Oakland, CA) led the Bears with nine points.
Dartmouth senior Darcy Rose came out hot in the first half, scoring the first six consecutive points for the Big Green before Brown got on the scoreboard with two free throws by sophomore Sadiea Williams (Lunenburg, MA). Dartmouth built up an eight point lead after the next few possessions, but junior Christina Johnson (Oakland, CA) sparked Brown by scoring its next six points. Senior Amy Ehrhart (Golden, CO) then tied the game with a jumper on the block at the 7:57 mark and got the foul, giving the Bears its first lead of the night after,15-14, after converting the free throw.
Just as quickly as Brown earned the lead, Dartmouth took it away with six straight points scored by Brittney Smith and a breakaway lay-up by senior Koren Schram to put the Big Green ahead, 24-17 with 3:44 remaining in the first. Brown ended Dartmouth's 12-0 run when junior point guard Courtney Lee drove to the hoop with 30 seconds left in the stanza, as the Big Green headed into the locker room at half with a 29-19 lead.
Grace hit her first three of the game at the 18:21 mark to cut the Bears' deficit to nine, but Smith scored 11 of Dartmouth's next 15 points to extend its lead to 44-30 with 10:13 left in the game.
Rookie Aileen Daniels (Waldwick, NJ) scored her first bucket at the 9:09 mark to put the score at 44-32. The Big Green then went on a 9-2 run, but two free throws by sophomore Sarah Delk (Atlanta, GA) put the score at 53-36 with 5:04 remaining. Ehrhart added two more free throws at the 3:02 mark, and sophomore guard Karly Grace (Camp Hill, PA) picked up a steal and put in a lay-up to cut its deficit to 62-40. Freshman Lindsay Steele (Erial, NJ) then nailed a three pointer, but it was as close as Brown would come as Dartmouth ended with a 64-43 victory
Johnson led Brown with nine points, followed by Lee with eight. Ehrhart ended her Brown career scoring seven points and pulling down three boards. Leading Dartmouth was Smith's 20 points and 10 boards, followed by senior Darcy Rose with11 points and 11 rebounds.
