New York, NY - The Brown women's basketball team fell 88-57 to the Columbia Lions (12-11, 5-4) on Friday evening at Levien Gymnasium. Five Lions scored in double-figures, as Lomax led the squad with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Junior guard Shae Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA) had a season-high 13 points to lead the Bears in scoring as the squad dropped to 3-20 on the season and are 1-8 in Ivy League play.
Columbia senior guard Katrina Cragg drained two three pointers and junior guard Sara Yee added another to help the Lions gain a 15-10 advantage at 11:45 mark. From there, Columbia continued to build on its lead with another three by Cragg and a few jumpers by Kathleen Barry to gain a 49-27 advantage heading into halftime.
Judie Lomax, the nation' leading rebounder, grabbed nine in the first 20 minutes of play as Columbia out-rebounded the Bears 22-10. Leading Brown was Shae Fitzpatrick with nine points on three-of-four shooting from the field which included two three pointers.
Columbia began the second half on a 14-5 run to take a 62-32 lead at the 15:00 mark. The Lions were shooting 60 percent in the second half as Lomax doubled her rebound total to 17 with seven minutes remaining in the game. Columbia's Cragg and Yee continued to light it up from beyond the arc, netting two apiece to help the Lions to an 85-49 lead with 3:51 left on the clock. Cragg ended up five-of-seven from the arc for the game for 15 points as Yee went three-of-five from the arc for 13 points.
The Bears will take on the Cornell Big Red at 7:00 p.m. in Ithaca, NY.
