Providence, RI - The Brown women's basketball handed the University of Pennsylvania its first Ivy League loss of the season with an 85-75 victory at the Pizzitola Center on Friday night. Senior Nyema Mitchell (Birmingham, AL) led the Bears offensive showcase with 25 points on 11-18 shooting. Three others added double-figures for Brown, which poured in 54 second half points on the night.
The Bears grabbed a 20-18 advantage at the 11:34 mark and never relinquished the lead as they were up by as many as 16 in the second half. Brown shot 55.6 percent from the field in the final half, leading to its season-high 85 points. The Bears committed just 11 turnovers to the Quakers 15.
Sophomore Sarah Hayes recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Tanara Golston chipped in with 17 points and a team-high eight assists. Junior Holly Robertson also contributed 14 points and seven rebounds.
The Bears now have sole possession of third place in the Ivy League with the victory tonight and five games left to be played this season. Brown will continue its home swing when it hosts Princeton tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
