Women's Hoops Falls to Columbia, 76-51

Providence, RI - Led by Sara Yee's career-high 20 points and seven rebounds, Columbia University (9-9, 2-2) earned a 76-51 victory over the Brown women's basketball team 3-15, 1-3) on Saturday evening at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
The Bears and Lions battled throughout the first half, but Columbia was able to gain a 12-8 lead after the first eight minutes of play. A jump shot and a lay-up by junior guard Christina Johnson (Oakland, CA) brought Brown within one at the 8:22 mark, but two three's by Danielle Browne and a lay-up and a three by Sara Yee gave Columbia a 25-17 lead with four minutes left in the half.
With 55 seconds remaining, Sara Delk (Atlanta, GA) drained a three pointer to put the score at 31-24 heading into locker room at half. Columbia shot 42 percent from the field and was led by Yee's 10 points. Brown was 9-of-25 from the field shooting 36 percent from the field, as Johnson led the offense with nine points.
A steal and a breakaway lay-up by Courtney Lee (Archer, FL) brought the Bears within three after the first three minutes of the second half, but the Lions answered right back with a jumper. Sadiea Williams (Lunenburg, MA) netted a jump shot to put the score at 37-33, but with the help of Columbia's Judie Lomax and Yee, the Lions extended its lead to 53-35 with nine minutes remaining in the game.
Lomax earned a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds, as Columbia shot 50 percent from the field for the game. Also leading the Lions was Yee with 20 points, and Danielle Browne with 13. Leading the Brown offense was Delk and Johnson with 11 points a piece, followed by junior forward Natalie Bonds (Taveres, FL) with 10 points and eight rebounds. The Bears shot 35 percent from the field for the game, and were out-rebounded 41-28.
Next week, the Bears will host Dartmouth at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, and will then challenge Harvard at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
