The Brown University Women's Basketball Team continued its winning streak as they defeated Cornell 73-63 in Ivy League action. The Bears have now won six straight, making them 9-7 overall and 3-0 in the Ivy League.
The first half was very evenly matched as the two teams battled back and forth and Brown went into the locker room up by only eight. The Big Red pulled to within six in the beginning of the second period, but the Bears then went on a 17-3 run to go up by 20.
Cornell then got hot from the field going on a 17-2 run to pull the game to within five points, but the Bears battled back and held onto their lead to come away with the victory.
Leading the way for the Bears and recording her fourth double double of the year was junior Nyema Mitchell (Birmingham, AL) with 22 points and 17 boards, this marks a career high in rebounds for Mitchell.
Also scoring in double digits for the Bears was junior Tanara Golston (Skoikie, IL) and freshman Colleen Kelly (Rochester, NY) who both netted 18 points a piece. Kelly also pulled down six boards and dished out three assists. Golston grabbed four steals to help the Bears on their way.
Freshmen Sarah Hayes (Beaufort, SC) and Ashley Van Kurin (Yorba Linda, CA) both recorded six points a piece as junior Miranda Craigwell (Dorcester, MA) added two. Hayes also pulled down nine boards and accumulated three assists and four steals. Van Kurin recorded six boards and five steals in the victory.
The Bears continue Ivy League action tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m. as they host Columbia University in the Pizzitola Gymnasium.
