Princeton, NJ - The Brown women's basketball team dropped a 66-53 decision to Princeton on Friday night, snapping a seven game win streak. The Bears fall to 2-1 in Ivy play and 9-7 overall. Senior Nyema Mitchell (Birmingham, AL) led Brown with 19 points and eight rebounds.
Princeton jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the opening minute of play and built up a 20-point advantage by the 9:01 mark as Brown failed to get into a rhythm. The Bears cut the lead to 12, 37-25, by the end of the half thanks to an 8-3 run. The Tigers poured in 18 of their 37 points from behind the arc as they went 6-10 from downtown.
The Bears brought it down to ten in the opening minutes of the second half with Mitchell scoring six quick baskets but that was as close as they would get. The Tigers were able to grab a hold of several loose balls and continued to attack on the inside as they picked up their first league win of the season.
Junior Holly Robertson (Cochrane, Alberta) added nine points and seven rebounds in the loss while sophomore Sarah Hayes (Beaufort, SC) also chipped in with nine points and five rebounds. Senior Tanara Golston (Evanston, IL) had eight points and six assists on the night as well.
Brown will be back in action tomorrow at Penn. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
