Providence, RI - In front of 1,522 energetic fans for Blitz the Pitz, the Brown women's basketball team (3-15, 1-3 Ivy) was defeated, 73-42, by Harvard (4-12, 2-1) on Saturday night at the Pizzitola Center.
The Bears started out hot, as senior Ashley King-Bischof put up Brown's first bucket with 18:36 on the clock. Baskets were traded back and forth, as freshman Shae Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA) put in a lay-up and sophomore Catherine Schaper (Houston, TX) added Brown's next four points. But Harvard held onto a 13-8 advantage with 15:28 on the clock.
The Bears found themselves down, 33-24, with 4:30 left to go in the first half and went on a seven minute scoring drought leading into the second. It wasn't until 17:21 in the second half that Schaper broke the silence by hitting a baseline jumper to put the score at 41-26.
Harvard's shooters went off in the second half, scoring 38 points while shooting 70 percent from the field (14-20). Emily Tay poured in 17 second-half points, as Katie Rollins ended with 13 for the game and Liz Altmaier had 12.
The Bears shot 32 percent from the field for the game and were led by King-Bischof's eight points. Senior Lena McAfee (Reston, VA), freshman Christina Johnson (Oakland, CA) and Schaper each added six. McAfee led the Bears in rebounds with five and Schaper grabbed four. Freshman Courtney Lee (Archer, FL) added five points, four steals and dished out two assits against the Crimson.
Brown travels to Penn on Friday, Feb. 2 for a 7 p.m. game and then will take on Princeton in New Jersey on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.
