Women's Basketball Falls 58-56 to Cornell in Ivy Opener

ITHACA, NY -- The Brown women's basketball team opened its 2002 Ivy League campaign by dropping a 58-56 decision to the Cornell Big Red at Newman Arena on Friday night.
Freshman center Holly Robertson (Cochrane, Alberta) led the Bears with a career-high 11 points and 15 rebounds on five of nine shooting from the field to earn her first ever double-double at Brown. Also recording a double-double for Brown (3-11, 0-1 Ivy) was sophomore Nyema Mitchell (Birmingham, AL) with 11 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks.
Sophomore Tara Williams (Portland, OR) also had 11 points and four assists for the Bears, including a three of six effort from three-point range. Senior Rada Pavichevich (Norwood Park, IL) had four points, 10 rebounds, and six assists.
The score was knotted 21-21 at the half, and the Bears jumped out to their largest lead of the game at nine points when Williams drained a three-pointer with 9:27 remaining which made the score 46-37 in favor of Brown.
However, the Big Red went on an 18-4 run down the stretch to pull ahead for the remainder of the game and claim the 58-56 victory.
