The Brown University Women's Basketball Team improved its record to 5-7 overall after a 69-62 win over the Black Knights of Army. The Bears helped Head Coach Jean Marie Burr move only one game from her 200th victory as a head coach.
The Bears were led by junior Tanara Golston (Skokie, IL) and freshman Jackie Vocell (Atkinson, NH) who both netted 14 points a piece. Vocell was four of seven from behind the three point arc and perfect from the foul line. Golston also recorded seven defensive rebounds and three assists in the victory.
Scoring was spread out throughout the team as junior Nyema Mitchell (Birmingham, AL) accumulated 11 points and four boards. Of Mitchell's four boards, three were crucial offensive boards within the last two minutes of the game. Also scoring in double digits was Ivy League Rookie of the Week Sarah Hayes (Beaufort, SC) with ten, Hayes also led the Bears in boards recording nine.
The Bears will return home to host Iona January 14, 2003 in the Pizzitola gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
