Providence, RI - The Brown University women's basketball team won its third straight game, 75-62, on Sunday at home against Sacred Heart. Four players scored in double figures for the Bears, led by senior Tanara Golston's (Evanston, IL) 20. Fellow senior Nyema Mitchell (Birminghan, AL) added 18 while junior Holly Robertson (Cochrane, Alberta) and sophomore Sarah Hayes (Beaufort, SC) chipped in with 11 points each.
After going down by nine early in the match, Brown exploded for 31 points in the last 12 minutes of the half to go into the locker room with a commanding 40-32 lead. Robertson tallied seven of her 11 points in the final 2:29, capping off a 31-14 run for the Bears. Hayes' shot a sizzling 4-4 from the field and 3-4 from the line in the opening session as well.
Brown continued its hot shooting in the second half, going up by as many as 21. The team's pressure defense denied the Pioneers of a field goal for over eight minutes of play as it took advantage with a 16-5 run. Golston and Mitchell combined for 21 of the Bears 35 points in the half.
Golston balanced her 20 points with a game-high seven assists. Robertson fell just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds to go along with her 11 points. Hayes tied her career-high with five of the Bears 12 total steals. Senior Miranda Craigwell (Dorchester, MA) contributed seven points, four rebounds and two steals in 16 minutes of play as well.
The Bears will begin a long stretch on the road when they travel to Navy this Thursday for a 7 p.m. match. Seven of Brown's next eight games will be on the road. The Ivy season will begin on Jan. 17 at Yale.
