Fairfield, CT - In its fourth straight road match, the Brown women's basketball team fell to Sacred Heart, 65-51, on Monday night. The Bears are now 6-5 on the season after starting out 6-1, losing their last four. Down by just one at the half, Brown fell behind late in the game and was unable to recover. Senior Holly Robertson posted 19 points while junior Sarah Hayes added 18 in the loss.
Robertson took control from the start, scoring six of Brown's first nine points as it cruised out to a 9-2 lead. Sacred Heart caught fire, going on a 13-4 run spanning just under three minutes, tying the game at 15 all by the 12:05 mark.
After the Bears grabbed a three point lead, 23-20, with 8:05 on the clock, the Pioneers broke out to a 28-23 advantage with an 8-0 run. By halftime Brown was able to cut it to a one-point game, 28-27, with two unanswered baskets down the stretch.
Robertson led all players at the half with 12 points while Hayes added eight. Junior Jackie Vocell provided a spark off the bench, tallying two points and two assists. Senior Andrea Conrad was all over the boards, posting eight in the half. Nicolle Rubino led Sacred Heart with eight points.
A three by Robertson, just her second of the season, tied the game at 32 in the opening minutes of the second half. A pair of free throws by Conrad gave the Bears a two-point lead following the three.
Two straight turnovers by the Bears shifted the momentum Sacred Heart's way as it pushed ahead by seven, 50-43. A three by the Pioneers extended the lead to ten with 7:55 on the clock.
Three straight baskets by Hayes kept Brown in the game but Sacred Heart continued its hot shooting to maintain a double digit lead.
Brown will continue its road swing at American on Thursday beginning at 7 p.m.
