The Bears will face Maine on Saturday before facing off against either Fairfield or Morgan State on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Led by junior Sophie Bikofsky's career-high 28 points, the Brown women's basketball team outlasted in-state rival, Rhode Island, 66-56 at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Wednesday night.  The Bears improve to 4-3 on the season after winning their second-consecutive contest while the Rams drop to 1-7 in 2013-14.

Entering the game ranked third in the nation in three-point field goal percentage, Sophie Bikofsky (Newton, Mass.) improved on her torrid start, connecting on 7-of-11 attempts from behind the arc to tie the school record for treys made in a game.

Co-captain Lauren Clarke (Colts Neck, N.J.) also scored in double figures as she recorded 16 points on 3-of-10 shooting from field and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Freshman guard Rebecca Musgrove (Plainview, N.Y.) grabbed a season-high eight rebounds, seven assists, and three steals while senior Sophie Beutel (Toronto, Ont.) added four points and four rebounds.

Carly Wellington (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Jordin Alexander (Fishers, Ind.) each chipped in with seven points for the Bears.

Brown improves its national ranking in three-point field goal percentage (.442), good for second overall in the nation, shooting an impressive 69-of-156 from behind the arc.  Bikofsky also ranks third overall in the nation entering play this weekend, converting on 29-of-48 attempts from three (.604).

The Bears rank first overall in the Ivy League in multiple categories to start the 2013-14 season.  Brown tops the Ivy League rankings in Assist/Turnover Ratio (0.96), 3PT FG% (.442), Turnover Margin (5.7), and Turnovers Per Game (12.6).  Bikofsky tops the Ivy League in three-point shooting while freshman Rebecca Musgrove's (Plainview, N.Y.) stout defense ranks her third in the league in steals per game (2.3).

Senior co-captain Lauren Clarke enters this weekend just 32 points shy of 1,000 for her career.

The Bears reached the 90-point mark on Saturday against UMBC for the first time since scoring 96 versus Westfield State on December 14, 1982.

With 28 points on Wednesday night versus URI, Bikofsky eclipsed her previous high of 23 points set on Nov. 16 at Saint Peter's.  The junior guard has scored in double figures in six of seven games this season, including three games of 20+ points scored.

Saturday marks the 11th meeting between the two schools with the series knotted at five games apiece. The Bears grabbed a 61-59 overtime win against the Black Bears in their last meeting on Nov. 26, 2011.  Maine's last victory in the series was a 63-51 triumph on Nov. 24, 2006.

After a hot start, the Black Bears enter this weekend's action with a 4-2 record overall, dropping two of their last three contests.  Maine fell to No. 22 Syracuse on Nov. 24 and Wisconsin-Green Bay on Nov. 30.  The Black Bears are led by senior guard Ashleigh Roberts, who ranks in the top-50 in the nation with an impressive .571 field goal percentage.   Roberts and teammate Liz Wood both average double figures in scoring for Maine in 2013-14.

Brown is 1-6 all-time against the Stags, with its only win coming in the 2005-06 season-opener.  Fairfield has claimed the last three meetings between the two schools.

After opening the season with two wins, the Stags have dropped three of four, including an 82-42 setback to No. 24 Gonzaga in their last outing.  Seniors Katie Cizynski (14.5 ppg) and Alexys Vazquez (10.0 ppg) each average double figures in the scoring for the Stags.  Fairfield ranks 25th in the nation from behind the arc - netting 38.5% of its attempts from long range.

This weekend could mark the second battle of the Bears, with Brown taking home the only meeting between the two schools, a 65-62 overtime win on Dec. 6, 2009 in Providence.

A young Morgan State squad (seven freshmen) has struggled in the early going this season as they enter the Classic with a 1-4 record overall.  Despite their struggles, the Bears have forced turnovers as they rank 17th in the nation with 12.3 steals per game.  Junior guard Tracey Carrington enters this weekend ranked 23rd in the nation averaging 22.3 points per game for the Bears.

Video of all home contests and all Ivy League games, home and away, will be broadcast live on BrownBears.TV. Fans can subscribe and view games by purchasing yearly, monthly, weekly or daily packages.

Brown will be idle for the next two weeks, returning to action at the Georgia Tech Christmas Invitational on Dec. 29-30.  The Bears will face Hampton on day one before battling either Georgia Tech or Alabama State in day two action.
