PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Members of Brown women's basketball's Ivy League Championship teams of the past gathered at an alumnae reception held at the Brown University Sports Foundation tent prior to Saturday's football game. The 1983-84 squad celebrated the 30th Anniversary of Brown's first Ivy League Basketball championship while the 1993-94 team was honored for earning the Ivy League's first automatic NCAA bid.
Members of the two teams were recognized at halftime of Saturday's football game against Penn alongside University President Christina Paxson, Director of Athletics Jack Hayes, Executive Associate Director of Athletics Bob Kenneally, and Head Coach Jean Marie Burr.
The group all gathered at Paragon Restaurant, sponsored by the Brown University Sports Foundation, to reminisce about the history of the program. Jean Marie Burr, Michelle Pagliaro Haywood '94, Kerry Kelley '85, and former Head Coach Maureen Enos (head coach of the 1983-84 Ivy League Championship team) all addressed the crowd at Paragon on Saturday.
"It was very meaningful to honor all of these women in our 40th year of play, the turnout of nearly 50 people was an amazing sight to see. It was a great weekend overall for our program," said Head Coach Jean Marie Burr.
Celebrating its 40th season, the Brown women's basketball team opens up the 2013-14 schedule in the friendly confines of Williams Court against Lafayette on Sunday as part of a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
