Greene Joins Women’s Basketball Staff

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's basketball coach Jean Marie Burr has announced the addition of assistant coach Katie Greene to her coaching staff. Greene comes to Brown from the New England Thunder semi pro women's basketball team, where she most recently served as an assistant coach. Greene, who is the winningest coach in school history at Newbury College, will work primarily with the post players at Brown.

Greene joins an experienced coaching staff, 12 returning players and three talented newcomers as the Bears look to capture their seventh Ivy League Championship in program history.

"We are excited to have such a successful basketball coach join our staff," said Burr. "Coach Greene has an established reputation as a strong recruiter and dynamic teacher in New England. Her time as a post player and head coach will be a resource for player development. When you meet her it is easy to see her contagious energy, strong work ethic and positive approach, and we were struck by her focus on what we term a "championship" mentality."

While with the Thunder, Greene was responsible for assisting in various areas of the program, including drills, practices, games, recruiting, scouting and clinics. In addition, she was responsible for the coordination of scrimmages and games.

Before working with the Thunder, Greene served as the head women's basketball coach at Newbury College for seven years. As a coach, Greene lifted the basketball program to new heights during her tenure and left Newbury as the school's all-time leader in single-season and total wins. She led the Nighthawks to the program's first-ever NECC playoff win and tournament final four appearance during the 2011-12 season and was named the Newbury Employee of the Year in 2010.

Prior to Newbury, Greene spent nearly two years as an assistant coach at Simmons College, where she assisted in several areas of the program.

A 2003 graduate of Pine Manor College with a degree in communications, Greene was a standout three-sport athlete for the Gators in soccer, basketball and softball. Greene, a native of Barrington, R.I., went on to become the first Gator in school history to earn 12 career varsity letters and was given the athletics department's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003.
