College Park, Md. – The Brown women's basketball team is back in action when it takes on host No. 9 Maryland at the Terrapin Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. The Bears will then take on Hartford or UMES on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. Video and live stats will be provided.
The Bears, coming off a 50-43 victory over New Hampshire during the 21st annual Brown Basketball Classic, had a 26-day break from competition for final exams and the holidays. Against the Wildcats, the Bears were down by two at the intermission, but 48 percent shooting from the field in the second half fueled the Bears' to a 50-43 victory. Junior point guard Lauren Clarke led the Bears with 16 points and four steals, followed by a 15-point and six-rebound performance from sophomore Sophie Bikofsky.
Clarke leads Brown in scoring with 15 points per game and is bringing down 4.8 rebounds per game. Dixon, who has missed three games due to an injury, is second in scoring with 13.4 points per game and is pulling down a team-high 6.6 boards.
The Terrapins are 8-2 overall and are 1-0 in ACC play with a 79-55 victory over Virginia in Dec. 6. The win has sparked Maryland's four-game winning streak, as Maryland is most recently coming off a 69-53 win at Delaware on Dec. 20. Tianna Hawkins led Maryland to victory with 16 points and 16 rebounds, and was followed by Alyssa Thomas' 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Hawkins leads the league and her team in scoring (19.0) and has a team-high 10.2 rebounds per game. Two other Terrapins are scoring in double figures, as Thomas is adding 14.0 ppg and Alicia DeVaughn is netting 10.6 per game.
