Providence, RI- The Brown women's basketball team (15-9, 6-4 Ivy) travels to Cornell and Columbia this weekend for its final away games of the 2011-12 season. The Bears will challenge the Big Red (10-13, 4-5) at 7 p.m. on Friday and will then take on the Lions (2-21, 0-9) at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
The Bears have won their last four of five games and is coming off a 57-52 loss to Dartmouth College last Saturday evening at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Friday's matchup vs. Cornell will be the 66th meeting between the two teams, with Brown owning a commanding 46-19 record in the all-time series.
Junior guard Sheila Dixon led the Bears with 16 points, six rebounds and five steals en route to Brown's 60-49 win over Cornell on Feb. 11. Three others Bears scored in double figures that night, including senior co-captain Hannah Passafuime with 11 points and four rebounds, and both Lauren Clarke and Lindsay Nickel with 10 points and five rebounds.
The Bears have won their last two games against Columbia, and lead the all-times series 36-15, which includes a 17-9 record when playing at Levien Gym. Brown will be looking for its first series sweep over the Lions since the 2006-07 season.
Dixon led the Bears with 20 points, including eight of the team's 15 in overtime, and grabbed nine boards and handed out five assists to lead Bruno to a 72-63 overtime win on Feb. 10. Adding to the offense was Passafuime and Nickel with 11 points apiece, and senior co-captain Aileen Daniels chipped in with nine points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
