Providence, RI- After five straight road games, the Brown women's basketball team is back in the friendly confines of the Pizzitola Sports Center for games against Columbia and Cornell on Friday and Saturday evening. The Bears (12-8, 3-3 Ivy) will tip-off against the Lions (2-17, 0-5 Ivy) at 7 p.m. on Friday, and will then challenge the Big Red (9-10, 3-2 Ivy) at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
The Bears are coming off a 59-55 overtime victory over the Penn Quakers last Saturday night at the Palestra after a 12-point loss to Princeton the night before. Senior co-captain Hannah Passafuime (Soquel, CA) led the Brown offense with 19 points and scored seven of the Bears 11 overtime points to lead the squad to victory. Adding to the offense was senior co-captain Aileen Daniels (Waldwick, NJ) with 15 points and Sheila Dixon (Schenectady, NY) recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Dixon leads the Bears in scoring and rebounding with 13.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Her 13.3 points per game ranks sixth in the Ivy League while her 6.2 rebounds ranks seventh. Passafuime, a CoSIDA Capital One First Team Academic All-District Selection is second on the team in scoring adding 12.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
The Bears own a 35-15 lead in the all-time series vs. Columbia, including a 19-6 record at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Columbia defeated the Bears in seven straight games before Brown snapped its streak with a 65-55 win at the Pizzitola Center on March 5, 2011. Brown has won its last four games against Cornell and owns a commanding 45-19 lead in the all-time series. The Bears lead 23-9 against the Big Red when at the Pizzitola, which includes a 60-55 win in Providence on March 4, 2011.
The Bears will be home again next weekend challenging Harvard on Friday, February 17 at 7 p.m. and Dartmouth on Saturday, February 18 at 7 p.m.
