Providence, RI- The Brown women's basketball team (9-6, 0-1) will travel to New Haven, Conn., to take on the Yale Bulldogs (9-6, 1-0) at 7 p.m. on Friday evening at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. The Bears opened their Ivy League schedule with the Bulldogs last Friday evening and fell, 75-56.
Brown was on a six-game winning streak before the Bulldogs halted the streak, and have since lost to Holy Cross, 81-74. Against the Crusaders, Brown leading scorer Sheila Dixon (Schenectady, NY) led the charge with 19 points and 10 rebounds to earn her second double-double of the season. Three other Bears scored in double figures; Aileen Daniels (Waldwick, NJ) added 17 points, followed by Lindsay Nickel (Los Altos, CA) and Lauren Clarke (Colts Neck, NJ) with 14 apiece.
Dixon, who has started in all 15 games, leads Brown in scoring and rebounding with 14.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Following Dixon is senior co-captain Hannah Passafuime (Soquel, CA), who is netting 12.6 points and pulling down 5.4 boards per game. The Bears rank third in the league in scoring defense, holding their opponents to 58.3 points per game. As a team, they also rank second in field goal percent defense (.373) and three point field goal percent (.315).
The Yale women's basketball team received a pair of honors on Monday that came as a result of its Ivy League opening victory over Brown. Sarah Halejian was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week after scoring a career-high 18 points and three steals against Brown, and Megan Vasquez earned honors by CollegeSportsMadness.com as the Ivy Player of the Week. She scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down five rebounds against the Bears.
The Bulldogs are on a four-game winning streak and are currently being led by Megan Vasquez's 14.2 points per game which ranks fifth overall in the Ivy League. Janna Graf leads the team in rebounding with 5.7 per game and is adding 10.7 points as well.
