Providence, RI- The Brown University women's basketball team will begin its quest for its seventh Ivy League Championship when it hosts Yale University at 7 p.m. tonight at the Pizzitola Sports Center to tip-off the Ivy League season. Brown enters the evening with a 9-4 overall record and have won its last six consecutive games, while the Bulldogs are 8-4 overall and are coming off three straight wins.
The Bears enter the Ivy League season riding a six-game winning streak, matching defending champion Princeton with the longest winning streak among Ivy teams this season. Brown went undefeated in the month of December and has not suffered a loss since falling 63-55 to Fairfield at the Pizzitola Sports Center on November 30.
Brown has held its opponents to a league-low 55.2 points per game, as its offense is being led by Second Team All-Ivy selection Sheila Dixon (Schenectady, NY). Dixon leads Brown in points (13.4), rebounds (5.9) and steals (28), while senior co-captain Hannah Passafuime (Soquel, CA) is second in scoring (13.2) and rebounding (5.5).
Yale is coming off a dominating 80-47 victory over Baruch to close out its non-conference schedule with an 8-6 overall record, its best non-league finish since the 1993-94 season.
Megan Vasquez leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 13.6 points per game, which ranks fifth in the Ivy League, while Janna Graf follows with 10.7 points and a team-high 5.9 rebounds per game. Vasquez also ranks third in the league in free throw percentage (.870) and ninth in assists per game (2.6).
