Providence, RI- The Brown women's basketball team will look to capture its sixth straight victory tonight at the Ryan Center as the team travels to the University of Rhode Island for a 7 p.m. game against the Rams. The Bears arrive in Kingston with an 8-4 record, while Rhode Island is just 1-13 on the year.
The Bears went undefeated in the month of December and are riding a five-game winning streak, which dates back to their 66-54 victory over the Rams on December 3 during the Brown BEAR Classic. Senior co-captain Hannah Passafuime (Soquel, CA) lit up for 16 points and handed out a career-high six assists that evening, while junior guard Sheila Dixon (Schenectady, NY) added 16 points and junior Lindsay Nickel (Los Altos, CA) netted 14.
Brown is coming off a 61-47 victory over San Jose State on December 31, as Nickel led the offense with 15 points. Passafuime tallied her season's first double-double with 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds to earn Ivy League Player of the Week honors.
Dixon leads the Bears in scoring and rebounding with 14 points and six rebounds per game, while Passafuime is second with 13.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. The Bears are averaging 61.0 points per game and are shooting .389 percent from the floor. Brown is holding its opponents to just 56.5 points per game while forcing them into 19.2 turnovers.
Rhode Island is 1-13 on the year and has not won since its Nov. 16 home victory over Providence College. Ashley Rivera leads the Rams offense with 11.6 points per game, while Emilie Cloutier is second with 10.4 points. The Rams average just 53.1 points and are giving up 66.6 points to their opponents.
After tonight's game the Bears will start their Ivy schedule at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 13 against Yale.
